We are excited to announce a new paid teaching fellowship with our partner, Empatico!
Empatico, an initiative of The KIND Foundation, was founded on the belief that all humans share a common humanity, and exists to empower teachers and students to explore the world through experiences that spark curiosity, kindness, and empathy. Empatico is a free platform that automates matching between partner classrooms and combines live video with activities designed to foster meaningful connections among students.
What do I need to do during the fellowship?
If successful in your application, you will be asked to complete a teacher survey before you start and ask your students to do the same – submitting your responses to us.
You will also be asked to repeat this at the end of the fellowship.
During the fellowship you you will be paired up with a partner class. You will have to complete four interactions with your partner class (one may be asynchronous, meaning you can record your conversation with students to share with your partner class, it does not have to be a “live” exchange). Your class will learn about the Global Goals with their partner class and your students will work together to decide on an action they can take for the Global Goals.
The learning activities typically take about one hour, with 25-35 minutes set aside for the interactions and discussions between your students and the partner class. Prompt questions, guidance and all the learning resources will be provided to you.
You will need to set up an account on the Empatico platform and then Empatico will connect you with a partner class.
How long is the fellowship?
The fellowship starts on 22nd April 2019 and finishes on 28th June 2019. All four interactions with your partner class must have been finished by this date. You are free to choose with the teacher of your partner class when your class interactions will be.
Is this fellowship paid?
Yes. If you are available to be part of an online learning community, participate in four virtual experiences on the Empatico platform with your students, share your experience with peers, and complete the teacher and student pre/post surveys then you will receive $500 USD.
I’ve already taught the Global Goals to my students! Can I still apply?
Unfortunately, we are only able to accept applications from teachers of classes who have never learnt about the Global Goals before. However, if you know of a friend or colleaguewho would be interested in this fellowship, and their application is successful and they complete all the deliverables you will receive a one off referral payment of $50 USD. Upon completion of the fellowship, your friend/colleague will receive $450 USD.
Am I eligible to apply?
Teachers from any country, any subject and any school may apply. However, there are five requirements that have to be met for you to be considered.
When is the application deadline?
The deadline for application forms is the 12th April 2019.
